Both of these Midlands Schools have already planted their potatoes into modified dustbins. Pictures of this season's children - growing and learning about potato production. Despite the downpour of rain earlier in July, Three Spires School, a special needs school based in Coventry visited a local potato grower for an enjoyable farm visit. The class of 8 to 9 year olds saw the variety Lady Felicia being grown on a larger scale. The children had great fun in digging up several potato plants and comparing the potatoes in the field to their potato crop growing in modified dustbins at their school. They took a bag of their freshly dug potatoes back to school to cook up that afternoon. The class also had the opportunity of seeing farm animals such as sheep, cows and ducks as well as other agricultural crops and machinery.
A few days before the end of the school Summer Term both Three Spires School and Mount Nod Primary School "harvested" their crop of potatoes that they had been growing in modified dustbins since March in their school playground. Each class from both schools had grown three different varieties, Lady Felicia, Desiree and King Edwards. The Lady Felicia team from Three Spires school won the trophy which was awarded to the team that produced the best overall crop out of both primary schools. |
